HUMAN RIGHTS-MENOPAUSE CARE
February 5, 2026
Summary
If enacted, this bill would require Illinois health insurance policies to cover medically necessary hormonal and non-hormonal therapies for menopausal and perimenopausal symptoms, as recommended by a qualified provider and consistent with evidence-based guidelines. It would also amend the Illinois Human Rights Act to remove menopause-related conditions from the definition of unlawful discrimination but require employers to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnancy, including menopause-related conditions such as flexible scheduling or modified workspace. The insurance coverage provisions take effect January 1, 2028, and the employment provisions take effect January 1, 2027.
