INS-GENETIC TESTING & SCREEN
February 7, 2025
Summary
If enacted, this bill would require health insurance policies in Illinois to cover genetic testing for inherited gene mutations without cost sharing (with exceptions) starting January 1, 2028, and would also require the State Employees Group Insurance Program to cover such testing for individuals with a personal or family history of cancer, with screenings if mutation positive subject to cost sharing. The bill expands coverage from group policies only to individual and group policies, but excludes the state employee plan from the no-cost-sharing requirement.
