Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act

Summary

This bill would amend the Fair Labor Standards Act to reduce the standard workweek from 40 to 32 hours over a three-year phase-in period. Employers must pay overtime for hours worked beyond 32 per week, and also for daily hours over 8 (1.5x) and over 12 (2x). The bill prohibits reducing pay or benefits for employees newly covered by overtime protections.
