District of Columbia Mortgage Broker Branch License

This license is required for all offices other than the main office from which a mortgage broker licensee wishes to engage in mortgage brokering activity involving residential property in the District of Columbia.

  1. Step 1

    Other Trade Name: If operating under a name that is different from the applicant’s legal name, that name (“Trade Name”, “Assumed Name” or “DBA”) must be listed under the Other Trade Names section of the Company Form (MU1). DISB does not limit the number of other trade names. See D.C. Code § 26-1006 (b)(1). Note: Applicants should not include “dba” in front of their Other Trade Name, and Other Trade Names should not be included in the Legal Name field in the Company Form (MU1). If operating under an “Other Trade Name”, upload a Trade Name Registration Certificate issued by the District of Columbia Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) for each registered trade name used by the applicant regarding ability to do business under that trade name.   2. Step 2

    Surety Bond Rider: Submit an Electronic Surety Bond Rider through the applicant’s Company Form (MU1) to increase the bond amount of the Mortgage Lenders and Brokers License Surety Bond to satisfy this requirement. Contact the surety bond producer to inform them of the application, so the producer can initiate the Surety Bond Rider Process in NMLS. Visit the NMLS Resource Center for more information.   3. Step 3

    Licensed Mortgage Loan Originator: Based on the business activity of the applicant, at least one licensed mortgage loan originator is required to have a sponsorship requested with the mortgage dual authority applicant for receiving approval of the license.
