AUTO INS-RIGHT TO APPRAISAL

October 15, 2025

Summary

If enacted, this bill would amend the Illinois Insurance Code to require that every auto insurance policy with first-party physical damage coverage includes a provision allowing the insured (at their sole discretion) or the insurer to invoke appraisal when the amount of loss is disputed. The bill sets procedures for selecting appraisers and an umpire, and for cost allocation. It applies to policies issued, renewed, or delivered on or after July 1, 2027.
