District of Columbia Student Loan Servicer Branch License

Each branch location of a licensed student loan servicer, not exempt pursuant to D.C. Official Code Sec. 31-106.02(b) that engages in student loan servicing activity shall obtain a license from the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB). This license should only be applied for by a company that also holds or is applying for DC Student Loan Servicer License.

Step 1
Other Trade Name: If operating under a name that is different from the applicant’s legal name, that name (“Trade Name”, “Assumed Name” or “DBA”) must be listed under the Other Trade Names section of the Company Form (MU1). DISB does not limit the number of other trade names. See D.C. Code § 26-1006 (b)(1). Note: Applicants should not include “dba” in front of their Other Trade Name, and Other Trade Names should not be included in the Legal Name field in the Company Form (MU1). If operating under an “Other Trade Name”, upload a Trade Name Registration Certificate issued by the District of Columbia Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) for each registered trade name used by the applicant regarding ability to do business under that trade name. Step 2
Surety Bond Rider: Submit an Electronic Surety Bond Rider through the applicant’s Company Form (MU1) to increase the bond amount of Student Loan Servicer License Surety Bond by $50,000 to satisfy this requirement. Contact the surety bond producer to inform them of the application, so the producer can initiate the Surety Bond Rider Process in NMLS.
